May & June Schedule
United Against Hunger, a local campaign to provide meals and emergency food for families in need, will hold food distributions every Friday in May and June. Food distributions begin at 8:00 a.m. and will end when supplies last. The distributions will be held at either the Brownsville Events Center or the Southmost Public Library – Please see schedule for location and dates.
The sites will distribute non-perishable food supplies—canned food, etc. and abide by the following guidelines:
• All donations must be put in trunk of vehicle, trunk must be clear.
These guidelines are put in place not only for the safety of the volunteers and staff, but for the community as well.
This initiative also serves as a hiring force: Employing many restaurant industry workers who were furloughed due to the COVID-19 regulations.
This is a joint initiative of the United Way of Southern Cameron County and the Brownsville Community Foundation. Other partners in this initiative include the Brownsville Foundation for Health and Education, the City of Brownsville, University of Texas School of Public Health, Brownsville Wellness Coalition, Good Neighbor Settlement House, and the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. Many other generous members of the Brownsville community have also contributed to funding.
