COVID-19 Drive Thru Testing Site FAQ’s

Is this only for Brownsville & Harlingen residents?

The City of Brownsville’s and City of Harlingen’s top priority is the health and safety of our community. The COVID-19 Drive Thru Testing site is intended to implement additional safety measures that will protect citizens by increasing awareness and minimizing spread of the virus. 

I am symptomatic and interested in taking the COVID-19 test, what do I do?

First visit BTXCARES.com to complete the online questionnaire. If you are eligible for testing, you will be contacted within 72 hours with an appointment (date and time) for testing. If you believe you have COVID-19, please remember to self-quarantine and follow the CDC’s recommendations.

Is the online questionnaire available in Spanish?

The online questionnaire is in English and Spanish.

How long until I hear back on whether or not I qualify as a Candidate?

You will be contacted within 72 hours after submitting your questionnaire. Denials will be contacted via email, and eligible candidates will be scheduled for an appointment via phone and email.

The questionnaire results said I’m not eligible for testing. How can I get tested?

You may resubmit the online questionnaire at any time if you experience COVID-19 symptoms at a future time or you can contact your primary care physician for private testing locations.

What is the cost of the test?

If you are scheduled for a test, there is no cost. Please take your health insurance card if you have one.

Will my insurance cover the test?

If you are unsure if your insurance will cover your test, please contact your provider.

Where is the Brownsville & Harlingen COVID-19 Drive Thru Site?

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, you must submit the online questionnaire at btxcares.com to make an appointment. After doing so, you will receive instructions on the next steps.

Is there a restroom or porta-potty at the testing site?

No, there is no restroom available for the public. 

How long will the drive-thru process take?

The process will take approximately 20 minutes from start till end.

How many residents will be tested each day?

The City of Brownsville’s and City of Harlingen’s goal is to see at least 200 residents a day.

Can I ride my bike to the testing site?

No, you must be in an enclosed vehicle to take the COVID-19 test. 

What documentation do I need to provide in order to gain entry to the site?

You will need a State issued ID or utility bill, and a copy of the email instructions you received at the time of scheduling your appointment.

Who will be my main point of contact once I arrive to the site?

Luis Nervaez is the Practice Manager that will be your point of contact, if needed.  Police and Medical staff will be at the arrival area to provide guidance on the process.

What will be the hours of operation from the drive-thru?

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM ,  Monday – Friday

How long does it take to get test results?

Results come back within 72 hours.

Where do I get treatment if I am positive?

If you are positive, you will receive a Teledoc consultation. At that time, you will receive instructions. If you think you are positive but have not received your results yet, please follow CDC recommendations: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/index.html.

How long will there be drive thru testing?

The City of Brownsville and City of Harlingen are committed to drive thru testing so long as there is a need in the community.

Will tests run out?

The City of Brownsville, City of Harlingen and Valley Med Urgent Care are doing their best to ensure all eligible persons are able to take a test.
